The metalcore community is mourning the death of Mike Milford, vocalist of the California-based band Scars of Tomorrow and founder of Modern Empire Music. Milford reportedly passed away on August 8, 2026, following a battle with cancer.

Milford emerged from Orange County’s influential hardcore and metalcore scene in the early 2000s. As the frontman of Scars of Tomorrow, he helped shape the band’s aggressive sound and contributed to several releases on labels including Thorp Records and Victory Records. The band also toured extensively alongside acts from the American metalcore and hardcore scene.
His work in heavy music extended far beyond the stage. Milford later built a career in artist management and label operations, including work with The Artery Foundation and Artery Recordings. He subsequently became a founder and co-owner of Modern Empire Music, an artist-focused company working with bands from the metalcore, hardcore and alternative scenes.
Modern Empire Music was connected with artists including Fox Lake, Waste and Born A New. Through his management and industry work, Milford supported artists with career development, release planning and the wider business side of the music industry.
Former bandmates and friends have remembered Milford as a gifted vocalist, dedicated father, close friend and influential figure behind the scenes. His legacy will live on through the music of Scars of Tomorrow, the artists he supported and the community he helped build.
Rest in peace, Mike Milford.
